Pilgrimage of the Heart

“Blessed are those whose strength is in You, who have set their hearts on pilgrimage” (Psa. 84:5).

There was a segment of my life where my calendar had events marked that I had my heart set on attending and participating. There was a writing conference I was signed up for, a retreat I was participating in, and other events that I would have enjoyed. Because of health issues, my calendar changed drastically. Initially, of course, this was disappointing, but in the process, my heart was being “reset.” My focus became more and more on what God was doing, who God is, and who I am to God. This is pilgrimage.

Being on a pilgrimage is a life-long process. It is never boring as new things are discovered about God, you and life in general. Insights given through pilgrimage…priceless.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for the opportunity to seek you in pilgrimage. I pray my heart will always be set on pilgrimage as I journey through this life. Amen.

Faith tip: Pray that as we celebrate our independence as a nation this weekend that we also celebrate the dependence we have on God.
