Don’t miss it!

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,

the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,

what is man that you are mindful of him,

and the son of man that you care for him?

Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings

and crowned him with glory and honor. – Ps 8:3–5

“Oh, the trees are so beautiful! I haven’t noticed the change in color.” My friend I was having lunch with was riding instead of driving and took notice of the splendor displayed in the rich colors of fall. She, like many of us, is so busy.

Lists of tasks when we are busy seem to take over our attention and we miss the fabulous gifts displayed right in front of us. God intentionally gives us special presentations of his glory to enrich our lives and let us know how much he loves us.

There is a world full of beauty for us to enjoy. If we look around, we may discover something we overlooked before … a sunset, a shoreline, or perhaps a couple of eyes that communicate great love for you.

Look around.

Prayer: Thank you, Jesus, for the many gifts you have given me throughout my life. Forgive me when I have missed them because I allowed my yoke to get too heavy. Today I will be intentional to look for your hand in all things. Amen

Faith Tip: Be aware of the gifts God has for you today.

Leaks

Drip

I write this, dear children, to guide you out of sin. But if anyone does sin, we have a Priest-Friend in the presence of the Father: Jesus Christ, righteous Jesus. When he served as a sacrifice for our sins, he solved the sin problem for good—not only ours, but the whole world’s. – 1 John 2:1 The Message

Our roof has a leak which can be really maddening whenever it rains. My husband and friend have tried to fix it a couple of times, but it still finds a way to drip. So we will have to pay the big price for replacing the roof on that side of the house. That will take care of the ongoing problem.

The sin in our life is also continual as we try to fix wrong choices made. The patch jobs we apply just don’t work to fix the problem. It still is leaking from us. It took a big price to fix the sin problem in our lives. Jesus was the only way it could be done. The cost of his suffering and death brought a return of redemption that is priceless.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for paying the price for my sin. It’s a price I can never repay, so I will give of myself to you and carry the cross in this life with you. Amen

Faith Tip: God has set you free from your imprisonment … walk in freedom today and share the hope you have with others.

We need only to ask

“In that day you will no longer ask me anything. I tell you the truth, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name” (John 16:23).

When I was young, I was shy. Asking anyone I didn’t know for anything was difficult for me, which is probably why I don’t enjoy any type of sales work to this day. I think I held the belief of being unworthy to ask for anything and already accepted the negative response before it was given.

The voice of truth tells us something different. Jesus says that we are to ask God for anything in his name, and it will be given to us. That, of course, doesn’t mean that a Porsche is going to show up on the driveway if asked for, but as we pray in line with the Spirit, we will be given what our heart desires. God gives the greatest gifts to the children he loves dearly … that’s us. In fact, many times he gives us more than we ask for … the joy that fills our hearts is meant to glorify him. We needn’t be shy in showing our appreciation.

Prayer: Lord, so many things come to my mind for which I can thank you. Today, may I find ways of showing my appreciation to you. Amen

Faith Tip: What desire has God placed on your heart? Pray in boldness and watch your heavenly Father respond.

Feeling protected?

I am surrounded by trouble,
but you protect me
against my angry enemies.
With your own powerful arm
you keep me safe.

You, Lord, will always

treat me with kindness.
Your love never fails.
You have made us what we are.
Don’t give up on us now! – Psalm 138:7-8 CEV

Protection – I started to think about what that means to me. Is it an absolute or a feeling of being safer? What are the things that make me feel protected? My husband does in knowing he loves me, so my heart feels protected. My dog, Charlie, is my overzealous protector. Money in the bank helps me feel safe from being destitute. I know these examples are not absolute. Life happens and circumstances can turn on a dime.

God’s protection is absolute. No matter what happens in this life, we are protected by God’s love for us. He has us in the palm of his hand and nothing will separate us. He has all the power so we can truly rest in his strong tower.

He wants us to know that so it is written repeatedly in the Bible. Look for all the verses that refer to fear such as fear not or don’t fret. Don’t be afraid to trust God and his word.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I praise you for who you are … you are my strong tower of power. I pray that I can live as evidence of your great love. Amen

Faith Tip: Fearful about something today? Look to God’s absolute protection to get the peace he wants you to experience.

Being cared for

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? – Matthew 6:26

In this economy, many have struggled, including myself, in making ends meet. There were days I wondered how we would make it. Many have known this fear. Experiencing the peace of God during these times has been beneficial to me, because I have learned that he is the provider of all things and that his arm is not too short (Isaiah 50:2). He owns it all (Psalm 50:10). I connect these promises with the fact that he loves me and cares what happens to me.

I don’t want to make this sound like a “believe in God and everything is good” type message. It usually is a very hard journey that one needs to make and learning to trust is what makes it good. If there are lessons to be learned, struggles are usually the classroom in which I have learned them.

If we really think about it, it is amazing how the creatures on the earth survive. God has provided for each of them and cares about his creation. We are more valued than that. God will provide and allow us to be a tool of his provision for others.

Prayer: Thank you, my Father, for taking care of me. You have seen to it that I have what is needed each day. I pray that you use me to show your provision to others. Amen

Faith Tip: Take some time to consider how God has provided for the creatures of the earth that you see today, and for you.

Saying Good-bye for Now

But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you. And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment; concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me; and concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father and you no longer see Me; and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.

“I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine; therefore I said that He takes of Mine and will disclose it to you. – John 16:7-15

The holidays bring loved ones together for a special time of celebration. The friends and family you see add to the experience with new memories being made. It seems special to have these people around in your life, especially if you haven’t seen them for awhile, and just when you get used to it, it’s time to say good-bye again. It can be hard to let go of people you love until the next time you see them.

Jesus knew this when he was saying good-bye to his disciples. Their hearts were heavy knowing that they had to let Jesus go, although they didn’t fully understand what that meant yet. Jesus explained it to them as much as he knew they could bear hearing. He also gave them the promise of the Holy Spirit. It probably didn’t make them feel much better at the time, but it was something they could hold onto when they needed encouragement. The promise is that we will see him again and we are never left alone to fend for ourselves. Truth is a wonderful gift.

Prayer: Jesus, I thank you for the promise you gave and pray that I can cling to it when I need to be encouraged. Amen

Faith Tip: Take the promises of God into your heart and mind and know them so that when you need to be strengthened by these encouraging words, they will be there for you.

Are You Going in the Right Direction?

Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. – Joshua 1:8

Why isn’t this working? I was trying to get my GPS to begin our journey from the correct location, but couldn’t change the wrong information showing. I pushed one button, and then another, and another with no change. This was supposed to be an easy way to travel. I wasn’t experiencing that at the moment. Okay, if all else fails, take out the manual and see if it can help. I flipped through the pages to find that being parked in the garage, the satellites may have a difficult time connecting to the receiver. So I backed out of the garage and a few moments later, the correct location appeared.

Our Christian life can be like that at times. We think we know how it should work. We feel we are doing the right things, but not getting to the place in life we desire. We work hard, give to help others, volunteer and more, yet our journey seems to have potholes in the road. Although we understand that life is not perfectly smooth because we are Christians, we get a sense that the direction we are heading is not right. We want to be sure. So if all else fails, we take out the manual … God’s Word. Like the manual for the GPS, it would have been a lot easier to take out the manual first.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for your Word that gives us direction. I pray that I can delve into the Bible daily and experience your direction for my life. Amen

Faith Tip: Pull out the manual and begin to seek God’s direction for you.
