Don’t miss it!

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,

the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,

what is man that you are mindful of him,

and the son of man that you care for him?

Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings

and crowned him with glory and honor. – Ps 8:3–5

“Oh, the trees are so beautiful! I haven’t noticed the change in color.” My friend I was having lunch with was riding instead of driving and took notice of the splendor displayed in the rich colors of fall. She, like many of us, is so busy.

Lists of tasks when we are busy seem to take over our attention and we miss the fabulous gifts displayed right in front of us. God intentionally gives us special presentations of his glory to enrich our lives and let us know how much he loves us.

There is a world full of beauty for us to enjoy. If we look around, we may discover something we overlooked before … a sunset, a shoreline, or perhaps a couple of eyes that communicate great love for you.

Look around.

Prayer: Thank you, Jesus, for the many gifts you have given me throughout my life. Forgive me when I have missed them because I allowed my yoke to get too heavy. Today I will be intentional to look for your hand in all things. Amen

Faith Tip: Be aware of the gifts God has for you today.

Teaching grace

Teach me knowledge and good judgment,
for I trust your commands.
Before I was afflicted I went astray,
but now I obey your word.  – Psalm 119:66-67

I’ve been going to Tulip City Beauty College to have my nails and hair done. Not only is it nice on the budget, but it has been a wonderful experience helping students master their craft. The instructors are there for the students as they work on clients.  The staff and students have been a blessing to me as I have come to know them.  As a student was working on my nails, they made a small mistake and felt so bad about it. I let them know it’s not a big deal and we are learning together.  I think of the times through my life that I have been shown grace, and have learned to show that same grace to others. It was through the tough times that I learned the most about grace.

It takes challenges in life to get our attention. As we journey through them, we get our greatest teachings and learn about trusting God and his word. If we didn’t have difficulties, we wouldn’t care about growing in our spiritual walk because everything would seem fine. Why would we want to rock the boat? But God has so much that he wants to show us. An attitude of neediness is a good place to be when it comes to our relationship with Jesus.

Prayer: Lord, I thank you for the times you have helped me grow. You have never left me to fend for myself, but always held my hand to guide me in the way I should go. I pray your grace will be experienced by others through me. Amen

Faith Tip: Be intentional on showing a large amount of grace today to those God wants to touch.

New hope of new birth

Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God  children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. – John 1:12-13

I love to hear of new births. There is something about the birth of a baby that gives new hope to any situation. The baby’s life has been planned out by God. Their creation has purpose and is highly valued. They are part of a family and dearly loved.

New hope is also gained by being spiritually reborn. Becoming part of God’s family is a decision by an individual to follow the one who created them. This is an eternal decision that will make a difference in how the life of a believer is led. Choosing to focus on God rather than on the world will enable a person to reap the benefits of being a child of the King.

Each person has great value. Life is priceless. The world may send us the message of being unworthy, but God’s message is of our great significance. His son died in our place by his choice. That’s the ultimate action of love bestowed on us. God wants us with him forever.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for your sacrifice of Jesus to pay for my sin. This demonstration of your love cannot be greater. I choose to follow you and pray that my life exemplifies that choice today. Amen

Faith Tip: Think of someone you love dearly and what you would do for them. That will give you a hint of the great love God has for you.

Following faithfully

But because my servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land he went to, and his descendants will inherit it. – Numbers 14:24

Gathering with a group of sisters in the Lord yesterday always is a delight to me. The purpose of the gathering was to be a supportive small group audience for the speaker being video-taped for her teachings to be made available through Zondervan. What an exciting time for her! I can see how she has been following God and the lessons she has learned, and now has been blessed with this taping to be a blessing for all who view it.

Making the choice to follow God gives us a different spirit. It is different from what the world says is the way we should go. This spirit, entwined with the Spirit of God, says to follow Jesus. The world will reach out to us to try to pull us off the path, but remain focused on the Lord. He’s bringing us to the Promised Land.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for your Spirit you have given me. I pray that today I will follow you wholeheartedly and not be distracted by things that are not in your plan for me. Amen

Faith Tip:  Make a choice this morning to follow Jesus in everything you do today.

What are you committing to today?

Commit to the LORD whatever you do,
and he will establish your plans. – Proverbs 16:3

There are commitments that we make through life that we are happy to do. We commit to a spouse when we marry, to children when they are born, to a job and more. We want the best for all of our commitments, but how do we make that happen? We could do research and see what has worked for others, or we could do what our parents did since it worked for them. Perhaps there are classes that we could take to be the best at what we want to accomplish. There seems to be a multitude of options, and figuring out which way to go is crucial.

God is the way to go. Whatever we commit to in life should first be committed to the Lord for that will give him the authority in each thing we want to do well. God will give the guidance in each scenario … he will make the plan. It is wise to follow Jesus rather than the world for he not only knows everything that will help us, but loves us so much that he wants us to succeed.

Prayer: Thank you, Jesus, for allowing me to come to you first with all of my commitments. I pray I always seek you and your kingdom first in all choices I make. Amen

Faith Tip: Commit the day to Jesus and see what he has planned for you.

Lessons from the Year

A woman thinking

I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back.

So let’s keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us. If any of you have something else in mind, something less than total commitment, God will clear your blurred vision—you’ll see it yet! Now that we’re on the right track, let’s stay on it. – Philippians 3:13-15 The Message

The beginning of a new year always gives me the feeling of a new start. The lessons I have learned in the last year can be applied and expanded in the following year. God is calling me to follow him. The message to me is to keep my eyes on Jesus.

That is the message for all of us. Keeping focused on the goal of Jesus will help us to receive all that God has planned for us. If we get off track, God will find a way to redirect us back on the right road. Let’s encourage one another to stay on the journey mapped out for us by someone who loves us very much.

Prayer: Lord, I thank you for this past year and all the lessons I have learned that have brought me closer to you. I pray this new year will continue to help me keep my focus on you. Amen

Faith Tip: Remember the lessons of the past year and determine how they can be built on this new year.
