So do not fear, for I am with you;

    do not be dismayed, for I am your God.

I will strengthen you and help you;

    I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. – Isaiah 41:10

Yesterday was one of those days for me. Nothing seemed to be going the way I wanted (control issues?) and my discouragement affected my attitude. My negativity caused a lack of gumption to get work done. It was basically fear of failure that was holding me back. It’s not what God wanted for me.

It’s God’s promises that help us through tough times in life as we remember how he cares for us. He tells us over and over again that we need not fear for he has it all under control. Remembering who God is makes all the difference in the world.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for carrying me through the tough times when my courage runs thin. I pray that I look to you and embrace the refreshment of who you are to me. Amen

Faith Tip: Is this a day of discouragement for you? It doesn’t need to be. Turn to God and remember who he is to you.

Let’s Go Over It Again

So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. – Isaiah 41:10

 Time and time again, I find myself worrying and being fearful about one thing or another. I can’t control most of the circumstances and I think that’s what causes my fear. I can’t fix it. I have no other choice than to trust God.

It seems that when God has a message that he wants us to fully understand and not forget, it will be in the Bible repeatedly. God talks a lot about fear in the Scriptures. He knew that we would soon forget and easily become fearful from life’s circumstances. Humanly speaking, it is very difficult if not impossible not be fearful at one time or another. It can be fearful just to read the newspaper or watch the news. But God wants us to know, understand, live out and trust that he is with us and will uphold us even during the darkest times.

Prayer: Jesus, you are the one I can trust with everything in my life. I pray that I can walk confidently trusting you today. Amen

Faith Tip: What has put fear in your heart today? Is it a control issue? Hand it over to God to deal with it. Is there anyone more capable?

You will make it through

Praying together at All Saint's AIDs camp

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

The message was clear from the teens I was interviewing that although there were struggles as they ministered to people with AIDs at the All Saint’s Camp in the Bahamas, that all of their needs were met. When they thought they couldn’t go on anymore from the heat and humidity, God would send a cooling rain. When the depression of how the people lived would set in, God sent someone to talk to and encourage them. Every teen I interviewed said they would go back and do it again.

What a powerful message that is for all of us. Every day we struggle, or perceive we struggle, and wonder how we are going to make it. God always comes through. It may not be in the way we desire, but it is always the best way. Growth is experienced through the struggles. We don’t need to fear about tomorrow, for God is the God of tomorrow.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for always being there for me and acting for the kingdom best. I pray that I can look forward to the future with no fear knowing you are in total control. Amen

Faith Tip: Is God calling you to do something extraordinary? Be fearless knowing God will take care of you.

Trust not fear

“In God, whose word I praise— in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” – Psalm 56:4

There are many things in this life that we can fear if we choose to. The economy, wars, or perhaps there is something closer to home as individual persecution of some sort. All of these things seem to be in the control of people, so we focus on their power and what they can do. If that is where our focus remains then we probably will have fear.

Understanding that God overrides all things happening on earth and has more power than all the people put together should give us a sense of peace, but again we need to choose to focus on God’s power. God’s love for you is greater than any person’s love for you. His care for you is the best, so you can rest on God’s best.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for always being there for me. I can stand strong knowing you are here. I pray that I never lose sight of you. Amen

Faith Tip: Do a word search in the Bible on “Do not fear” and see how many times God wants you to know that you need not fear.

Courage in Christ

All right, everybody be cool, this is a robbery!

While Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the servant girls of the high priest came by. 67 When she saw Peter warming himself, she looked closely at him.

“You also were with that Nazarene, Jesus,” she said.

But he denied it. “I don’t know or understand what you’re talking about,” he said, and went out into the entryway.

When the servant girl saw him there, she said again to those standing around, “This fellow is one of them.” Again he denied it.

After a little while, those standing near said to Peter, “Surely you are one of them, for you are a Galilean.”

He began to call down curses, and he swore to them, “I don’t know this man you’re talking about.”

Immediately the rooster crowed the second time. Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows twice you will disown me three times.” And he broke down and wept. – Mark 14:66-72

“This sweater set would look perfect with my new skirt,” Ellie said as she held it up against her checking the sizing. Denise was shopping with her friends, Mae and Ellie, at the Vintage Mall.

“If you found just the right scarf, it would really set it off,” offered Mae.

They continued looking through the racks when they heard a buzzer go off.

“What’s that?” Denise asked as she looked around for a sign of the answer to her question.

Just then, a man and a woman came running in with rifles yelling for everyone to get on the ground. Women started screaming.

“Shut up! Get down now!”

Denise, Mae and Ellie got down. They held on to each other tightly shaking with fear. There was a man and a woman carrying the guns, and they began walking through the aisles of the store. The woman stopped before Denise and her friends. Pointing the gun at them, she asked sarcastically, “It looks like maybe you girls are praying. Isn’t that nice? I really don’t like Christians…a bunch of hypocrites. So do you believe in God?”

The three sat quietly…fear bound their tongues.

Prayer: Lord, I thank you for the opportunities we have to show our belief in you. I pray that your power will override any fear. Denying you is giving victory to the evil one, and I do not want to give evil any satisfaction. Amen

Faith Tip: When fear tries to kick in your spiritual door of faith, call on Jesus to strengthen you and help you stand firm.

Fearful Fog

Why are you fearful, O you of little faith? —Matthew 8:26

Driving yesterday through foggy conditions limited our visibility to see what was ahead. I could see about ¼ mile in some spots. Even though we were limited, we could still journey on, but it wasn’t as carefree. I had to be more attentive to everything around me for fear of a dear jumping out, missing an exit, or hitting a car without headlights. It’s frustrating and fearful not to be able to see what’s ahead.

In our spiritual walk, sometimes we can’t see far ahead. Some of us would like to plan perfectly and be ready for any given situation, but that’s not the way God planned it for us. Life can change in an instant. God only requires us to trust him for he can see it all.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for giving us everything we need in every situation. You never leave us. I pray that I can trust you more and more in our journey together. Amen.

Faith Tip: In a circumstance today where you can’t see the end, just trust God with it. Hand it over to him. He will not let you down.
