Life’s Delights

Take delight in the LORD,
and he will give you the desires of your heart. – Psalm 37:4

When I see my three nieces, I feel joy. I’m not sure why, but it comes on instantaneously. The girls are so much fun to be with as they share their love of life openly through music, skits, clowning around, and games or perhaps we go out for some special hot chocolate. They are a delight. It’s somewhat like that when I see God, whether it is during a quiet time or when I see his hand at work, I feel joy.

God’s presence shows God’s love. The times we share are wonderful with always an element of surprise. Each day is another opportunity to travel this journey with our best friend, Jesus. With Jesus being our guide, we will be shown new things that we never knew and maybe never thought about. He openly shares his love of life with us. The trip will be an adventure.

Prayer: Jesus, thank you for being my guide and giving me joy in the journey. I pray that I will never take for granted the wonderful things you have to show me each day. Amen

Faith Tip: If you are ready for adventure, put on your spiritual seat belt and follow the guide, Jesus.

He’ll be there

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am” (John 14:1-3).

I’m going…I know I don’t know anyone there, but I know this will be good for me. These are some of the thoughts I had going to my first writer’s conference years ago. It’s frightening to go to an unfamiliar place and not know anyone. I would have been a lot more confident having a friend with me. But I went and I am glad I did. It opened up a whole new world in writing for me. The resources and networking were invaluable to my growth as a writer.

Jesus wants us to be confident in our daily walk…even when he leads us to places unfamiliar and where we feel we are alone. Our lives are filled with so many chapters; each one seems to be in a new area of our lives and that can be scary at first. The truth is that Jesus is always there with us. Through our life’s journey, Jesus is there. Even at the end when our eternal life begins, Jesus is there and will be forever. Doesn’t it feel good to know that Jesus wants us with him all the time?

Prayer: Lord, I thank you for your promises. I pray my confidence will grow as I journey with you in this life and the next. Amen

Faith tip: Is there an area of your life where you don’t feel confident? Look to Jesus to help you be confident.

Moonlight

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. (Psalm 119:105)

You would think he was a mad dog. Charlie, my yellow lab, decides to go into full hysterical barking action in the back seat of the car if he noticed anything move. How dare people walk on the sidewalk, pull up beside our car, or work with their construction crew. I wondered why he was behaving this way. At the dog daycare I was taking him to, they said dogs act differently when there is a full moon. I don’t have all the data on this, but I do know that a full moon is beautiful. We have been enjoying one the last couple of nights and are in awe of how it lights up everything outside. Light gives a feeling of peace and safety as we maneuver through darkness.

It is the same with God’s word. His word is a light that gives us a feeling of peace and safety as we maneuver through life. Our steps of faith are given direction through the light of God’s word. Don’t travel in the darkness without the light of life. It’s just not safe.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for your word. It brings light to my life as I journey with you. I feel safe with knowing your word is alive and active giving me direction. I pray that I may always turn to your light as I walk through each day. Amen.

Faith tip: Make a commitment to read God’s word each day and let it permeate your life. Why not start today?
