May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. – Romans 15:13

Yesterday, I communicated with someone struggling with pain in her life. She struggled with relationships in her family and didn’t understand why things were happening. As I listened to her story, I understood for I have experienced similar pain and was able to share what God has done for me. I wanted to give her hope. I wanted her to know that she wasn’t alone for all families seem to have dysfunction in some manner. It’s part of our human state.

Life can be very hard as we all know. Struggles are our classroom in learning to trust God. That is where the hope grows inside of us and blossoms into the joy and peace promised by the Lord. As we love to give a bouquet of beautiful flowers, we can give an abundance of hope for it never runs out, but continues to flow freely from the hands of Jesus.

Prayer: Lord, you know the pain that I struggle with and thank you for the hope you give me. I pray that the hope I have been given will be used to encourage another. Amen

Faith Tip: Gather the hope the Lord has given you and be ready to present your bouquet to someone in need.

For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good. (Titus 2:11-14)

My husband and I both love food. We both love the process of creating new dishes and then enjoying them. We try to eat sensibly and use healthy foods with lots of greens and whole grains. However, when there is a potluck or a buffet, there is a real struggle going on. I think it’s more of wanting to try everything rather than hunger that makes us eat more than we should at those times. It really helps to make a decision before going what we will eat and when we will say, “no more.”

In this world, there are many temptations. Most are not good for our well being. God gives us the ability to say no through his Holy Spirit. This is not a sacrifice to God; it is an act of obedience for our good. To live a life that is self-controlled, upright and godly in this present age is going against the flow of our culture and is difficult. That’s why we need God’s grace to accomplish it. It’s definitely worth continually practicing this way of life for God’s glory shines brightly through it for all to see drawing people to himself. People today need hope, and when they see the hope we have, they want it, too.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for the ability to say no to things that are not beneficial to me. I pray that I will continue to look to you for the hope you so freely give. Amen

Faith tip: Today practice saying “no” to things that you know are not beneficial to you.

Source of Hope

Do any of the worthless idols of the nations bring rain?
Do the skies themselves send down showers?
No, it is you, O LORD our God.
Therefore our hope is in you,
for you are the one who does all this.
(Jeremiah 14:22)

The old man wondered what happened. He felt he had played his cards right. He went to the right school, married a woman of good standing, his business was successful, but here he was retired and rocking on the front porch alone. He wondered, am I waiting to die? Is that all there is to life? He began to weep as he thought about how his life felt so empty.

Relying on our own strengths will always leave us wanting more. There is a hole in each one of us that we continually try to fill. Using our own or the world’s power rather than God’s power will never fill the hole, but occasionally satisfy us for a time, but then will fade. Worshiping things of this world gets in the way of us worshiping God. We were made to worship and we will worship something, but the choice is ours.

We have real hope because of Jesus. God desires for us to have an abundant life, but that can’t happen without him. When we choose our own way of doing things, we choose to go against the hope that God wants to freely give us.

Prayer: Lord, I pray that I will choose you to worship and depend on in my life. I thank you for the wonderful ways you have blessed me with your presence each day. What would I do without you? Amen

Faith tip: Decide today whom or what you will worship and act on it.
