Dylan rocks, but God’s paper covers it

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. – James 1:17-18

Tomorrow is my husband’s birthday. I always have a hard time knowing what gift to give him that he will really like. I gave it to him already, so I’m safe sharing it on here. He is a big fan of Bob Dylan and I came across a set of DVD’s with a book on his tour in 1965. John loves the classics and really was enthusiastic about the set opening it up and looking through the book … talking about his friend, who is also an enthusiast, being jealous (kids and their toys).

Perfect gifts are not a problem for God. He knows exactly what we need and when. One of his best gifts is the Bible. He shares truth that is perfect for everyone. We can open it up with expectant hearts and delve into the pages of life written just for us. No one needs to be jealous for it is available for all.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for my husband. He is a perfect gift for me. Your truth is the one gift that keeps on giving … throughout eternity. Amen

Faith Tip: Relive the excitement of opening God’s message for you today … he has something to say to you.

Paid in Full

God sacrificed Jesus on the altar of the world to clear that world of sin. Having faith in him sets us in the clear. God decided on this course of action in full view of the public—to set the world in the clear with himself through the sacrifice of Jesus, finally taking care of the sins he had so patiently endured. This is not only clear, but it’s now—this is current history! God sets things right. He also makes it possible for us to live in his rightness. – Romans 3:25-26 The Message

Jane didn’t know how she would pay for the gifts she wanted to buy for her children for Christmas, but she desired to give them a good holiday experience. It was true she worked two jobs and still struggled with making ends meet, but if she was extra careful, maybe she could make payments of the gifts in layaway at the store.

About a week after Jane put the items in layaway, more bills poured in and she knew it would be impossible to purchase the gifts. Having a roof over their heads was more important. Tears of frustration flowed just when the phone rang.

“Hello”

“Hi, is this Jane Bradford?”

“Yes”

“This is Mike Smith, manager of Buy It Right. I have the pleasure of calling you with great news. An anonymous donor has paid for all of your layaway items as a Christmas gift. Not only you, but many others, too.”

As that generous person made it possible for Jane to give her children gifts for Christmas by paying her bill, God paid the price for us so we could live eternally with him. The bill of our sin kept coming in and there was no way we could cover the cost. Jesus paid it all.

Prayer: Dear Jesus, I thank you for paying my bill of sin. I pray that the grace you have shown me, I will show to others and in doing so, they will see you. Amen

Faith Tip: Reflect on the true gift given to you by a very generous God who loves you.

Gifts that Last

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,  to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,  who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. – 1 Peter 1:3-5

Thinking back on Christmases I have experienced in the past and all the wonderful gifts I have been given, most of those gifts I no longer have because of time that has passed and how the item has faded, broken, or perished some other way. The gifts were great when I received them, but they aren’t made for forever.

Jesus is forever. The gift we receive in Jesus will never fade, break or perish. It is always like brand new. With Jesus, you are encouraged to regift his grace and mercy for it will never go stale.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for the wonderful gift of Jesus. I pray that I can share my gift with others and share the inheritance and the hope. Amen

Faith Tip: Share the gift of Jesus today with those you meet today.

Joy to the World

What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the Word of Life—and the life was manifested, and we have seen and testify and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was manifested to us—what we have seen and heard we proclaim to you also, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ. These things we write, so that our joy may be made complete. – John 1:1-4

I saw on the news this morning a report on medical breakthroughs that will possibly extend our life on earth by reversing the aging effects on our bodies. While I think this is interesting, I wonder if people who fight to live so long have missed the message of eternal life. I can’t help to think once a person is in the presence of Jesus that they wonder why they fought so hard to keep from this moment. The Scriptures tell us that everything is perfect in heaven and we get to live there for eternity. No more tears, no more hurts, no more political phone calls … sorry, to those who enjoy receiving them.

Our joy comes from knowing the fact that we are God’s and we will be with him forever. There is a place being prepared especially for us. That’s how special we are to Jesus. The fellowship there will be grand.

Prayer: Thank you, Jesus, for the provision of eternal life you made for me. I have joy knowing that I will be with you forever, and nothing can take that away from me. I pray that I share this joy with others so that we can fellowship together for eternity. Amen

Faith Tip: Focus today on the gift of eternal life and wonder about what that will be like. The gift started with a little baby in the stable.
