One Thing After Another…

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. – James 1:2-3

I remember a party we had at the church where we played board games. The popular game of the evening was dominoes. I had never played before and just loved it. I was hooked. I remember playing with dominoes as a child – standing them up in interesting shapes so that when I hit the first one down, it would knock the next one down and so on until it went through the whole design. The term “the domino effect” means how one thing affects another.

We as Christians have experienced those days when it seemed that we were standing in line to be knocked down. One thing after another would go wrong and we sometimes wonder when it will end. When will we experience the peace we seemed to have just a short time ago?

We can experience the peace now. The transforming moment of dread to joy happens when we make the choice to “consider it pure joy.” God is working … all the time. He has not left the building, but stays close to His walking temple. You are being strengthened beyond what you can imagine for yourself. It is through the pain that we will gain and persevere.

Prayer: Thank you, Jesus, for not leaving me to fend for myself when troubles arise. I pray that I can make that choice today of peace … Your peace that passes understanding. Amen

Faith Tip: Feeling anxious about something in your life? Stop the worried thought process and begin the God-thinking process of the victory you will experience at the other end.

Roller Coaster of Life

Don’t be afraid; just believe…” (Luke 8:50)

I remember some years back going to Cedar Point with a friend who loved to ride roller coasters. Cedar Point came out with a relatively new one at that time called the Magnum XL-200. It was called the highest roller coaster at that time at 205 feet high. The speed of riding that roller coaster would get up to 72 mph. If you go to this link: http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/park/rides/coasters/magnum/index.cfm you can actually watch what it’s like to take the ride.

Going on a ride like this takes belief that you will survive it. I wasn’t so sure the first time I went on it. I rode on this roller coaster three times…and screamed just as loud every time. This is a ride where you forget all your troubles, because the focus is on survival.

There are things in life that are frightening. God does not want us to be afraid. Throughout the Bible, he sends the message of “fear not” and “do not be afraid.” God wants us to focus on him, his promises, and his presence. If we can keep our focus on God, and believe what he says, our fears will disappear.

Prayer: Dear Jesus, with the ups and downs of life, I pray that my faith will keep me on the firm foundation of you. I need not fear because of the victory I have in you. Amen

Faith tip: Look for a couple of scripture verses in the Bible regarding fear, and see what God says about it. Memorize these verses to keep in your heart and mind as you journey through life.
