Following Dad

Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. – John 5:19

The little boy followed his dad into the barn. The father picked up a hoe, rake, and shovel and indicated to his son to pick up a few of the smaller tools. They walked out to the area of the yard where they would begin their garden project. The son had never gardened before and was excited to be helping his father in this adult venture. Whatever his father did, the son also did. The son was confident in what he was doing because it was what his father was doing. The boy felt the expectation of the harvest that would one day come.

We can feel that same expectation of harvest as we follow in the footsteps of Jesus. God is always at work and invites us to join him. That’s what loving father’s do. In confidence, we follow his every move as the Spirit guides us in the plan set before us.

Prayer: My heavenly Father, thank you for the great love you show me in inviting me to join you in your great work. I pray that I am confident in what you show me to do. I look forward to your harvest. Amen

Faith Tip: Be aware of what God is doing around you today, and watch for his invite to join him.

Joy to the World

What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the Word of Life—and the life was manifested, and we have seen and testify and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was manifested to us—what we have seen and heard we proclaim to you also, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ. These things we write, so that our joy may be made complete. – John 1:1-4

I saw on the news this morning a report on medical breakthroughs that will possibly extend our life on earth by reversing the aging effects on our bodies. While I think this is interesting, I wonder if people who fight to live so long have missed the message of eternal life. I can’t help to think once a person is in the presence of Jesus that they wonder why they fought so hard to keep from this moment. The Scriptures tell us that everything is perfect in heaven and we get to live there for eternity. No more tears, no more hurts, no more political phone calls … sorry, to those who enjoy receiving them.

Our joy comes from knowing the fact that we are God’s and we will be with him forever. There is a place being prepared especially for us. That’s how special we are to Jesus. The fellowship there will be grand.

Prayer: Thank you, Jesus, for the provision of eternal life you made for me. I have joy knowing that I will be with you forever, and nothing can take that away from me. I pray that I share this joy with others so that we can fellowship together for eternity. Amen

Faith Tip: Focus today on the gift of eternal life and wonder about what that will be like. The gift started with a little baby in the stable.
