I am always amazed at the number of people who camp out days before Black Friday at store to make sure they get the best deal possible on what they want. It’s something they want for themselves or someone they love. It’s important to them enough to be inconvenienced this way.
In the big picture, the best deals in life are peace, joy, mercy and grace. You don’t need to line up to receive these for yourself or for all you love. It is freely given by One who was greatly inconvenienced by dying on a cross on Good Friday. His love for us put Him on the cross willingly. Are we thankful for God’s love that we are willing to express it in worship and godly living, or is it too much of an inconvenience?
Prayer: Dear God, I thank you for the way you showed your love to me in a manner that was beyond understanding. I pray that I may always express my gratitude each day by living for you. Amen
Faith Tip: Today consider how you can express your love for God and live it out.
I remember as a child doing schoolwork believing that whoever did it the fastest did it best. I still see children trying to rush through their homework not only to just get it done, but to show they are good at it. We all know what happens when we rush through things; mistakes are made. Even as adults, we try to cross the next thing off our “to do” list perhaps to show how competent we are and the amount of things we can get done in a day. Rushing through any task will cause errors.
In the things we are called to do, or make a choice to do, we need to have God involved in it. Our work is more than slapping something together and calling it good. Thankfully, that’s not how God creates. God put great love into all of his work. If the Lord is in what we do, all we do should be for him.
Prayer: God, I thank you for all the things you have for me to do each day. I pray that I not rush through them and take pleasure in serving you through these tasks. Amen
Faith Tip: Invite God to join you in all you do and experience the joy of serving God fully.
As I waited in the checkout line at the grocery store, I noticed the fistful of coupons coming from her purse and heard the audible sigh from those behind me. It was obvious that the clerk wasn’t thrilled either as they took the coupons and started scanning them coming to one that wouldn’t work. Frustrated, they looked on the receipt to see if the correct product was purchased and then manually entered the coupon savings. The woman checking out looked at me and said she was sorry. I said it wasn’t a problem. I encouraged her on her coupon tenacity sharing that I cut them out and normally left them at home. I chose to be kind and patient. Everyone in the line and the clerk had a choice to make on how they would respond.
If we understand that we are truly God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, I believe that would make a difference in our choices. The sense of belonging and focus on the kingdom sets a direction for us to follow. God’s love for us is a blessing, and we are blessed to be a blessing to others. Showing God’s love to others is a choice, and can be done in all circumstances.
Prayer: Your wonderful love for me, dear Lord, is reason enough for me to show love to others. I pray that I can wear your designs of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience to your glory and honor. Amen
Faith Tip: Put on God’s designer clothes and practice with each person you come in contact with today. Make it your choice to do so.
