Partiality … being favored

For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes. He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the foreigner residing among you, giving them food and clothing. And you are to love those who are foreigners, for you yourselves were foreigners in Egypt. – Deuteronomy 10:17-19

When it comes to coffee, I’m partial. There is a certain dark roast flavor that I love. My taste buds are spoiled … industrial coffee just doesn’t do it for me. I forgo free coffee from a hotel and visit the local coffee shop for a “real brew.”

It’s good to know that God is not partial when it comes to us. There are so many different people in various situations that he loves. It doesn’t matter who, what or where …. he still loves. That is the kind of love that we are to show others. It’s easy to judge, and how quickly we forget our own struggles that we were loved through. Whenever you are unsure how to respond, go with the love response … the love of Christ won’t steer you wrong.

Pray: Thank you, Lord, for the way you have cared for me through my life no matter where I was or what was going on in my life … you still showed love to me. I pray that I will show that same type of love today. Amen

Faith Tip: Perhaps someone comes to mind or across your path today that needs love shown to them that is not judgmental. Respond with Christ’s love.

New adventures

The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” – Deuteronomy 31:8

She had never driven a long way from home before. She was nervous. Determination to reach her destination gave her the fortitude needed to embark on the journey. Although the weather switched from sunny to rainy, the map was confusing at times, and the stays at hotels along the way were welcome when exhaustion overcame her, she made it. God had given her all she needed to answer his call for her to go.

It doesn’t matter if your name is Moses, Joshua, Peter or Paul, doing something that is out of our box is scary. Discouragement can be felt if the road we travel on is not going as we expect. Keeping the focus of God is imperative to making the journey. Believe his promise that he will never leave you nor forsake you. He goes before you, so there is no reason to be afraid. Stand strong and encouraged.

Prayer: Jesus, I thank you for the new adventures you call me to do in your name. My knees stop shaking when I focus on you and your call and trusting it. I pray that I listen carefully to your voice and follow obediently. Amen

Faith Tip: Is God calling you to do something new today? What is your response?

Testing…1, 2, 3

He led you through the vast and dreadful wilderness, that thirsty and waterless land, with its venomous snakes and scorpions. He brought you water out of hard rock. – Deuteronomy 8:15

Being tested has always made me nervous. Being put on the spot to answer questions correctly would cause my brain to freeze. The anxiety would affect my performance on tests. I would most likely be able to give the right responses if in regular conversation, but there is a feeling of pressure in answering at the moment to see if you know the facts.

In life, there are moments of testing. God gives us opportunity to show what we know. There’s no pressure for God is dependable. If we don’t do it right the first time, we’ll be given another chance until we get it. He cheers us on as we grow into the person planned—not more loved for we are already greatly loved, so this is not a love based on performance. It is a plan for us to be the best we can be and be able to shine God’s light brightly.

Prayer: I pray that you test me, Lord, to show how you have worked in my life and areas where I still need growth. Amen

Faith Tip: Do you have a struggle today? Use this as an opportunity to be tested. Celebrate and be thankful for the growth experienced.
