Take Off the Bridle

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.
Do not be like the horse or the mule,
which have no understanding
but must be controlled by bit and bridle
or they will not come to you.  – Psalm 32:8-9

I was watching a movie last night that portrayed a loving relationship between a mother and daughter. The daughter was getting married which created the fear of losing their relationship. They had always been there for each other. Love taught them that they always would be. What would their relationship be like after “I do” was said? Most likely, it would be changed, but perhaps more enriched than before.

God already said “I do” when He created us. The relationship builds as we spend time with God and listen to the teachings given us with love. If we only obey because of threat, there is no love involved, and we feel imprisoned. Love helps us to understand, grow and do the right thing without the leash of the law. God knows our hearts.

Prayer: Lord, I thank you for the way you keep watch for me and guide me in your ways. I pray that my heart will reflect that love to you and others not because I have to, but because I want to. Amen

Faith Tip: Do you spend time with God because you want to or have to?
