Pruning from God

English: Pruning the vines

Image via Wikipedia

“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit.” – John 15:1-2

Tomatoes in our garden did quite well this year. John was giving many of them away, which I think is a great way to bless someone with fresh picked fruit (tomatoes are a fruit … right?). Towards the end of the season, there were a lot of little green tomatoes on the vines. He was told by a professional gardener that he should cut down the vines not needed so that the tomatoes left would grow faster before the temperature became too cool.

Bearing fruit is also done by the follower of Jesus. Sometimes pruning is needed to get the best fruit. The challenges in life help us grow stronger knowing God has not abandoned us and is helping us through it. The spiritual maturity experienced bears lovely fruit for the kingdom.

Prayer: Lord, it’s sometimes hard to be thankful for the hard times in life, but knowing you will use it for good makes me thankful. I pray that I not depend on my own strength, but only on yours. Amen

Faith Tip: What challenge are you experiencing now? Can you release your hold on it to try and fix it to allow God to manifest his plan in you?
