Me or Thee?

Sower - Thorns

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their lifewill lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? – Matthew 16:24-26

It’s difficult to be a servant in a world that encourages doing it your way. In some cases “my way” becomes the only way to that individual. What we put into life to make it what we desire takes a lot of time and energy. Somehow, it never measures up to our ideal, and we need to do more to reach this preconceived idea of perfect.

Like blinders on a horse, so is the way we focus on our wants and needs. We travel along the road of life trying to make ourselves happy, at peace, rich, comfortable, successful and more. We miss what is really going on. God is really going on and he is the one that can fulfill the need in our souls. Taking the blinders off of self and putting on the Jesus specs will enable us to see what God has in mind for us. God purpose is our call and when we are willing to give up our list of desires and replace it with God, enrichment fills our life like never before.

It is so good. Don’t miss out. Follow the One who takes our life we offer and turns it into a beautiful tapestry.

Prayer: Jesus, thank you for the plans you have for my life. You don’t tell me everything that is in store, but just enough for each day. I pray that my eyes keep their focus on you. Amen

Faith Tip: Make a conscious choice to focus on God today. Whenever you start thinking about your “I wish…” list, refocus what God wishes.

  1. “Like blinders on a horse, so is the way we focus on our wants and needs” <- couldn't be said better, Kathy! I chose to give up this area of my life at She Speaks 2011. It's been hard work, but He always makes it possible!
