Now then, why do you try to test God by putting on the necks of Gentiles a yoke that neither we nor our ancestors have been able to bear? No! We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are.” – Acts 15:10-11

Placing the notebook that size of a Chicago phonebook on the table, they proudly announced that these were all the bylaws of the organization. “These are the rules to follow to be part of this association.” Reading the manual for my toaster hasn’t even been done.

I’m so glad that being a part of God’s family doesn’t require me to jump through hoops. It’s only by accepting Jesus that I am “in.” Sometimes it’s hard to imagine the free gift of salvation, so we make out lists of things we need to do to be a Christian and expect others to follow suit. There are many things we can do that are good and enable us to grow in our faith, but none are required to be a Christian other than accepting Christ as our personal Savior. It is only by his grace we are saved and nothing that we do to earn it.

Prayer: Thank you, Jesus, for the free gift of salvation. I pray that I can share the freedom of this gift with others who need you as their Savior. Amen

Faith Tip: Let go of the “must do” list in your mind and experience that says you are a follower of Christ and enjoy the freedom of just being a follower.
