“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” – Matthew 7:13-14
I once heard a biblical scholar say that Jesus was probably about 5’4” since that was the average height of men at that time. While there is nothing wrong with that height, being 6’1”, this was a truth I found hard to accept. I was more comfortable thinking of Jesus being closer to 6’5”. God is big…right?
There are many truths in the Bible that just don’t sound right to our secular heart. We don’t want it to mean one thing even if it is true and will exchange it for another meaning that is more comfortable. Also, many of the world seem to agree on the comfortable meaning. So we believe if many people think this is the true meaning, then it must be. It’s easier to think in terms of what seems right or proper, but beware of being mislead. Truth is truth…it is black and white. Gray area is not truth no matter how many believe it. Continually seeking God is the only way for truth to be revealed.
Prayer: Thank you, Jesus, for not being a fence sitter, and it is clear that you don’t want me to be either. Being lukewarm is not being on the side of truth. I pray that I can discern truth through the empowerment of your Holy Spirit. Amen
Faith Tip: If the Spirit is nudging you on a belief you have, it is time to act on it. Ask God to guide you in finding the truth.
