Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. – 1 John 2:15-16
Watching a food advertisement on television can make my mouth water. I watch as a group of friends are having a great time sharing a pizza and all is right with the world. They are all obviously popular and have no problems because they are together eating pizza at a great place and having the time of their life. They are enjoying the digging their teeth into a succulent piece of pizza as the cheese oozes.
Now while I do enjoy pizza, I think the commercial over dramatizes the affects of going out for pizza. All the commercial does is make us lust for the pizza because we want perfection in our world. It’s a lie as most advertisements are. Their goal is to make you and me want to purchase their wares, and they are good at it. The world continually sends us false messages of how to achieve happiness that does not come from God.
What is God’s truth? He has a free gift for us through Jesus that will completely fulfill us all the days of our lives. He loves us where we are and will journey with us to help us be all that we can be.
Prayer: Lord, I thank you for your truth. I pray that I can crave your truth over the offerings of the world. Amen.
Faith Tip: The next time you are tempted by an advertisement, evaluate why you are drawn to it. Seek what God has to offer you.
