“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” (Matthew 6:25-27)
If I allowed myself to worry about everything, I could accumulate quite a list in a very short time. For example, I could wake up and worry about my health, what I was going to do that day, if a bill was going to be paid, if I was going to get my work done on time, the health of my husband, and yes maybe even the dog. Those could be the first moments of thought upon awakening before I even got out from under the covers. Not a great way to start the day I would say. I have a choice whether I am going to worry or not. I would not have gained anything by worrying, but would have lost a lot as peace would have been gone along with joy and other wonderful gifts God has for me.
As you can see, the above scripture is not a suggestion. It is a command. Like all the commands God gives us, it is for our own good. When we realize the great love God has for us and his continual care, we can trust that God will provide. We can be free from the yoke of worry as we obediently follow the Lord who loves us so much.
Prayer: Lord, I pray that I can continually keep my eyes on you and follow you wherever you lead me. Take away my heavy yoke of worry and replace it with your much lighter yoke of peace and joy. Amen
Faith Tip: If you were asked what you worry about, how would you answer? Take that worry to the Lord. Voice to him your trust in handling it, and even though you may not feel confident in saying it at first, you will as you repeat it and see his hand at work.
